You're spot on that, globally speaking, and in the U.S. as well (outside of some very visible and legitimate issues/complaints), there's never been a better time to be alive. That doesn't mean it's all sunshine and roses or that we can't or shouldn't make the world a better place, but it's important to acknowledge how far human beings have come over time.

As for capitalism, younger people have been culturally conditioned to hate it since birth. I'm a late Gen-Xer and I know that was the case for me. Add in things like the financial crisis and resultant bailouts, the loss of manufacturing jobs, climate crisis, inability to install a real universal healthcare system, judicial capture in the form of Citizens United, "et cetera et cetera et cetera" and you can begin to understand why the animus is so strong at the present moment. The irony is that for most of us, workplace life and work life balance have been trending positively, certainly the best conditions in my lifetime. But the bigger narrative of corporate greed has captured the public imagination, and with good reason. I used to lean far left Socialist in my youth, even Communist sympathizing, but I'm pretty sure those aren't the answers either. I believe a highly regulated, de-monopolized capitalism is ideal and could be sold to the public, but I'm just not sure how we get there from here.
