The numbers say otherwise

That is not true. Of the 28 starters (not including the late Dodger game), only three pitched as many as 7 innings and none went more. Seventeen pitched less than six innings. None had fewer than 78 pitches and 18 had more than 90. Many of those who threw 90+ pitched very well.

Here are the pitchers who threw more than 100 pitches yesterday:

5.1 IP 107 NP 2 ER 8 K
5.0 IP 100 NP 4 ER 10 K
7.0 IP 100 NP 0 ER 7 K
6.1 IP 100 NP 3 ER 8 K
5.2 IP 104 NP 1 ER 8 K
4.1 IP 100 NP 4 ER 4 K
6.0 IP 107 NP 2 ER 9 K

Of the seven who threw 100 or more pitches yesterday, only two pitched more than 6 innings (one seven and one got one out in the 7th) and only one pitched really poorly. They threw a lot of pitches mainly because they had a lot of strikeouts.
