“ Before puberty, sex differences in athletic performance are minimal.”
That has not been my experience. My boys play soccer. Sometimes their teams in the under 8 and under 9 divisions would be matched up against girls teams that were 1 to 2 years older. The games were not close—the younger boys beat the older girls easily. In talking with other parents who had older boys they experienced the same thing when matched up against girls teams. The very fact that the boys teams were scheduled against older girls teams, and not the other way around, tells me our experiences were not unusual.
These results are consistent with my own experiences as a child in elementary school and middle school and if people on this board look back on their own lives honestly they will recall similar observations. Biological human males have evolved to be more athletic on average (of course there are some exceptionaly athletic girls) than biological females, and from a very early age.
