i can't remember the town but there was a story a few months ago about a bunch of rich tech dudes who essentially tried to buy up a town in California so they could turn it into their own empire and control the local government. Local officials used a bunch of local lows to block them from buying everything and stopped it, but that's exactly what this plan is like too.
