Even women couldn't get a mortgage on their own, or a credit cards until 1972.
My mom died in 2015, one of the last conversations we had with her she brought that up, they bought the house in Cupertino that I grew up in, and only my dads name could be on the mortgage. When they first got together my dad was still in college in Auckland NZ, so my mom worked 2 jobs to pay the bills until he graduated. They came to the US on a British visa from my mom because it was faster than a NZ visa was at the time.
And yet from the minute they arrived in the US, my mom was a 2nd class citizen. They bought a 67 VW squareback and my dad had to sign all the paperwork even though at the time my mom was the only one who had a drivers license.
Which is why you're seeing so many women now online expressing their anger and grief that lots of women willingly voted in a guy who is the puppet of people who want to take away some of those rights, 52 years later.
