5-0 win for OK yesterday behind their ace pitcher Bahl - FSU is good; UCLA before the late season swoon was good; everyone else was behind those two, but Oklahoma with all its ridiculous antics (like spiking your bat and celebrating like you just hit a grand slam home run after being given an intentional walk) is just significantly better than anyone else this year (and last year and the year before that)....
Sure hope our new #1 pitching recruit is the next wunderkind because the essential piece is great pitching. Add that Oklahoma starts five All Americans in their starting lineup and plays outstanding disciplined defense all around. We'll have at least three All American caliber players in our starting lineup next year led by Brady and all those freshmen will be sophomores - but we have to find the pitching to make it all happen - starter and reliever.
Our baseball team's NC came the year we had two MLB starters and probably the best reliever in college baseball. Hard to ignore the implications of that with regards to baseball and softball. Faraimo had a magnificent year and entire career but when she faded a bit late it was over. To compete at the very top you have to have someone at the level of Garcia (and a few others in UCLA's golden history in the sport). Fingers crossed we will have that again soon and reduce the Sooners to celebrating having done well but falling just short again....
