as a kid, this was a competition I loved. Back in the day, a number of the nations greatest T&F athletes competed in this event and it so often came down to the final event, the 4X400 (then known as the mile) relay to determine the winner.
Today, UCLA's women's team triumphed 92-71. In the men;s meet, SC went into the final two events, the long jump and the aforementioned 4X400 relay, with a one point lead. Since SC had taken first and second place in the 400 meter dash, it was clear they were going to take that event, moving their advantage to 6 points over the Bruins with only the long jump remaining to be decided.
In the actual case, UCLA's long jumpers won first and second place, a Trojan finishing third. Places are scored 5 points for first, 3 for second and 1 for third leading the final score of USC 81, UCL 82 and a UCLA sweep over SC in the dual meet.
