...lucky to escape with a victory. For Hayashi's first goal, the Illinois keeper left her near post exposed and parried Hayashi's shot into the goal.
Illinois equalized 4 minutes later with UCLA's (backup) keeper being a bit indecisive on a cross.
UCLA pulled ahead when an Illinois defender got a glancing head to Hayashi's routine shot, taking it out of the hands of the goalkeeper.
UCLA looked like seeing out the game with comtrolled possession, but a giveaway near midfield led to a quick Illinois counter. The Illinois attacker turned the Bruin defender (Frasier, I think..) and cut into the box where she was clattered into by Edris. Looked a clear penalty but wasn't called on the field. When the referee went over to the video box to see the replay, I was sure it would be given, but no penalty. The Illinois coaching staff was apoplectic, and I can understand why.
Bruins saw out the remaining few minutes for the win. Five wins on the bounce now, six unbeaten.
