When it comes to NIL, it is what it is. Some universities will benefit more than others, and that’s just the reality. Hoping that Congress or the universities themselves will somehow regulate or police the system feels like wishful thinking. At the end of the day, the only laws that really seem to matter here are economic ones.

On the Eye On College Basketball podcast, Gary Parrish made a good point: the cat is out of the bag. We’re not going back to the way things were. Even if a more “fair” NIL system is eventually put in place, there’s a good chance we’ll see more creative, and possibly more blatant, forms of cheating than ever before. I tend to agree with that take.

As a UCLA fan, I just hope we adapt to whatever system ends up being the norm. I’m not thrilled with every aspect of where things are or where they’re headed, but there’s no use crying over spilled milk. We’ve got to play the hand we’re dealt.
