From what I'm getting concerning UCLA's prospects for this season, it seems that people are projecting the Bruins to be in the #15 to #25 category. To the best of my knowledge no one has actually come out and said that precisely, but that's the feeling I get from the general comments about the Bruins this coming season.
I can see that based on who is returning and the one major transfer and the production they collectively represent. But, I can also see that the rest of the Bruins beyond their three main returnees and one main transfer are, for the most, untested. Now those four main guys can be a formidable group, but they are not a complete team and even among those four there exists some question marks.
Across the board this kind of prognostication can be difficult and particularly with a team like the Bruins. On paper and with some hopeful thinking this team could be very good if some of those question marks fall favorably toward the Bruins and some of those untested players exceed expectations. I mean really good - like top 5 to 10 good or maybe even better. They could also be just a better than average type team falling into the #25 to #35 level of play. That's not bad but not really good either.
I prefer to just wait and see how this all evolves and resolves rather than be a voice of doom on one side or ride high with unsupported and perhaps unreasonable expectations on the other. I'm curious and anxious and maybe even cautiously optimistic for this current version of the Bruins. They look like they are going to be an exciting team. Let's be realistic and understand that this team is very much still a work in progress. They have some good to very good pieces but there's still a lot of work to do.
