Per reports, the NCAA is leaning towards a model that places the 12 lowest AQs into the "Opening Round" along with the last 12 at large selections, as part of the 76-team proposal.

That would mean tough league champs play early.

This does not look like a tournament that gives access to more mid-majors. This looks like a tournament that wants to get rid of mid-majors before the tournament even begins in earnest. If you check the quote tweets and replies, a vast majority of people are firmly against expansion. Most fans believe the NCAA won't act in good faith and give mid-majors a chance, even with more spots available. Basket Under Review contributor Kevin Sweeney laid out the facts.

It seems the only person who is championing for more teams these days is Seth Davis.
