Call it chemistry or whatever generic intangible you want to assign, there
is a fundamental nexus lacking here among the players. It summons up unwanted memories of failure teams of rhe past, Alford’s last team, Howland’s first (sorry there was no excuse for a losing season w/ the talent he had) or most notably Lavin’s last, UCLA 1st losing season in 52 years which you could tell was “off”as early as the exhibition games…
Dent was supposed to provide a unifying force but it’s yet to truly emerge as such..Booker has moments (vs. weak opposition) but goes into extended periods of hibernation like last game and I notice his teammates ignore him a lot when he signals for the ball ….part of the symptoms? …
Tyler is a hero ball player with Oregon State level skills but too often
hits his ceiling, Perry talented-lite, needs another year, if ever, maybe,
Clark and Daily so far seem exist on islands of their own …and Williams useless, like a speed bump whenever he comes in …. ..shoulda transferred ….
Ultimately the composition and the chemistry of the team is on the coach ….
a coach who somehow managed to alienate his most valued and unique attraction, a budding unicorn and door buster in Mara ….
His trademark calling card, D-fens, is on Holiday so far, and we don’t mean
Jrue..
