and it's not even close. They lead #2 South Carolina by more than 3 buckets per 100 possessions.
They're #9 in 2P% at 58%, and #25 in 3P% at 37.8%. Their 66% assist rate is also #25.
Yes, Lauren can look slow at times, but I was in the 7th row yesterday afternoon, and she was getting fouled on every possesion (EVERY. SINGLE. POSSESSION.) and usually multiple times at that. It's hard to put up a quick shot off an entry pass when both arms are being grabbed by separate defenders, and another has her arms around you like she wants to slow dance.
Coach Close did note in the post-game press conference that she needs to do a better job getting the ball into Lauren, and the team needs to do a better job drawing defenders to the 3-point line and then getting the ball into Lauren when she's only defended 1 on 1.
But offense isn't the problem. The team is giving up almost an extra bucket per 100 possessions on defense compared to last year. Opponents are doing better shooting (eFG 40.5% #42), rebounding (Opp.OR 27.5% #75), and holding onto the ball (TO 17.3% #341!).
That turnover figure is really unacceptable. That's over 2 extra possessions per game. That's equal to at least a free basket for the top 60 teams in D1, which includes all but 3 B1G teams.
In case you missed it the first time, offense isn't the problem.
