Dent struggled in Cronin's half court O sets.
Dent talked about coming to UCLA to be more proficient on the D end, where Cronin made his bones. Dent was a solid O orchestrator at New Mexico and won POY in the Mountain West.
Cronin has been a solid D coach over the years at Cincy & UCLA. Not so much on the O end. Before anyone gets spooked, UCLA has a legendary past in hoops. Mick started off as a head coach at Murray State: for 3 seasons & failed to make it to the S16; then a head coach at Cincy for 11 seasons making it to the S16 1 time; then an improvement at UCLA for 7 seasons making it to the S16 round 3 times (including 1 FF). None of the above spells prime.
What it does spell to me is the need for an O coordinator. If you disagree, tell me how pleased you are as a UCLA hoophead with Cronin making it to the S16 round 4 times in 21 seasons.
