However, I do think you are biased. Comparing Alford to Cronin is just ridiculous. Alford never even sniffed the success Cronin has had at UCLA. His one really good team flamed out in the S16, otherwise, zilch.
Cronin built much better teams than Alford and deserves a bit of rope for that. That said, the program is in bad shape at the moment and if he doesn't figure it out fast, he's going to be gone. As you say, this is probably his make or break year, and I don't see this roster saving him.
Who knows, though? If he can pull a rabbit out of a hat with these players, make the tourney and win a game or two. He deserves another year IMO. If not (very likely), well... I hope we are already scouting new coaches.
