My brother in law is also a UCLA alum and has been a major donor to their athletics program since the 1990s. He attends social events with UCLA administrators and other big donors. Cronin's hire was never very well received by this crowd, and even after the FF year, there was talk that Cronin's off court behavior was a problem.
Because we are off to such a crummy start in our Big 10 era, patience with Cronin has turned to irritation, and it's not exactly a secret that big donors soured on him long ago.
So don't be surprised if there's talk of buying out his contract if we have another forgettable season. Could he save his job by overachieving this year? Probably. But those in the know don't think he'll be our coach longer than 2-3 more seasons tops, if that long.
