He was a truly terrible coach at UCLA. Could not develop a QB, had that disastrous flirtation with the Pistol, and just got blown out so many times. Go back and look at the scores his teams lost by. No amount of support was going to save him. He was able to recruit some good players but couldn’t do anything with them.
Mora was able to find some success early, so he got more support.
