Seriously. Just look at where the majority of the current top P4 head coaches came from and you’ll see that they were either top non P4 coaches previously (e.g. Cignetti - James Madison > Indiana, DeBoer - Fresno State > Washington > Alabama) or were elite P4 assistant coaches (Smart - Alabama assistant > Georgia, Day - Ohio State assistant > head coach, Lanning - Georgia assistant > Oregon, etc.)
All UCLA needs to do is focus on top non P4 coaches like Kinne or Golesh or top P4 assistant coaches to find their guy. I’m concerned that the committee “groupthink” will end up forcing UCLA to hire yet another unqualified coach simply because he has “name value” (e.g. Chip Kelly) or connections to UCLA (Dorrell, Neuheisel, Foster, etc).
