The committee is a tacit admission that we don't have an AD

The AD's prime responsibility (at real schools) is to boost income primarily by boosting football. He/she hires the coach.

Jarmond is doing none of these things. He can't even manage to field a team in 2025, unless you delude yourself into thinking 0 -12 or similar is fielding a team, and he isn't hiring the new coach, a direct report that will likely determine his future.

He's not an AD. Why is he still here?

Guerrero failed in key ways and then was forced into this committee gambit. He lasted about a year beyond it.

I expect the same here. If the new coach doesn't jolt the program in the 2026 season, Jarmond will be fired. That is, he should be fired then.

This is all backwards. The AD should be replaced first and the new AD should step up and pick a coach, second. That clean and straightforward management style requires leadership and decision making, so it isn't present at Ucla where internal politics rule, not obtaining results.

Ucla operates in the California state government model. Instead of taking executive action to correct a problem, a bureaucratic, indirect, blameless approach is selected. Committees are formed. Studies are done. Decisions are avoided. Problems metastasize.

Instead of firing Jarmond now for failing to even mount a 2025 football season, he is softly allowed to lean on a committee. The DMV would be proud.

We're encouraged to think of the committee as a support team of Ucla well wishers and achievers seeking the best for Jarmond. Nope. In reality, the committee is just a bureaucratic device designed to protect him in many ways, shield him from accountability.

In the real world, beyond the pretend world of Ucla, this is inexcusable. It's known as "moral hazard" when abuses are not punished. Moral hazard leads to further and larger abuses. Compound this lack of accountability over decades and you end where we are now, a bloated, dysfunctional university that is so devoid of purpose that it can't even organize a football program. Ucla can't even have its practice facility available for the season. The can't even tie their own shoes.

That's the Ucla Way.

Folks, they don't deserve your support. They haven't earned it. But, they know they can take some amount of it for granted, so they do. I've moved on and you should too.
