Probably the lowest attendance in the league outside of Northwestern. Cignetti even complained last year that they weren't selling out and that fans were leaving the games too early.
It's not 45K fan support that has them where they are. It's Cignetti himself, who they hired for $4.5 million while we let Chip (who was paid more than Cignetti) play us and then hired some dude who had no business being a head coach.
I'd venture to say that at most any Power conference school, if you come in and make the playoffs, the money will start pouring in.
As far as the term "giant", that may be overstated. But UCLA should be a team that is bouncing around the top 25 most every year, which would please most fans. Because when you hang around close, you can sometimes break through. Four teams from the Big 10 made the playoffs last year.
You get close, maybe get a favorable schedule one year, get a few good bounces, and you could be in.
