"We don't give much importance (any?) to legacy admits but usc does." sc has an obvious big advantage in this area over UCLA and it does build loyalty to usc from alums and future alums. What does UCLA do to build more loyalty from their alumni...I was at an alumni event one time and a staff member from admissions was there. A few of us were chatting with the staff member and an alum stated that he had donated to UCLA for years but was frustrated when his kid, who had high grades, test scores, wasn't accepted to UCLA. The guy from admissions essentially said "Well, that's disappointing, UCLA is very competitive but he can always reapply as a junior. However, we should feel proud that our degrees are from one of the highest rated, most difficult universities in the country to be accepted to." The UCLA alum that was frustrated sarcastically said "Thanks, I feel better now" and walked away.
