(0-2) UCLA coming off a mediocre 1996 season (except the USC comeback) travelled to Austin to play #10 ranked Texas. Texas fans smelled blood. The crowd roared as Texas took the opening kickoff and gained 50 yards the first four plays. Then the cheering stopped. It was 38-0 UCLA at the half and should have had 45 but for a bogus penalty nullifying a TD at the end of the half. Most of the crowd left at halftime. Though unbelievably stunning at the time, in hindsight not a big deal. This was the start of UCLA’s 20 game win streak and Texas ended up 4-7.
