I spent a very brief time as a walk-on player in 1996 and 1997. When I first got my practice gear to play as a scout defensive end, they asked me what number I wanted. I simply stated the number that I wore in high school, 57, not thinking about who may already wear it. When Danjuan saw this, he exclaimed, "You think you're going to beat me?! You think you're going to take my number?! Who are you?!"
I clearly did not beat him or take his number.
I took his banter as friendly hazing of a newbie. He was a jocular dude, from what little I can recall.
