I watched some of the the JMU-Ore replay last night.
the good - Sweazie and Robell played really well (outside of some @oregon false starts in a playoff game). Oregon's pressures up the middle mostly came when one of those guys were subbed out. They should be able to play in the B1G and do well.
the pretty good - Wayne Knight had a bunch of carries for 0-3 yds, but didn't get caught in the backfield for losses (some due to him, some the OL) and had one big run (which sounds like the book on him). Landon Ellis seemed, ok, but didn't get a lot in the time I watched
the middling - Sahir West played limited downs. did ok, but nothing special. A little concerned that he wasn't on the field more
the bad - Trent Hendrick didn't really flash at all. He did lead them in tackles per the box credited with 6 solo and 10 total tackles, which isn't a bad line, but I had trouble finding him at all anywhere making a play.
to be fair, Oregon was one of the best teams in the country last year and Oregon's Offense just killed them. outside of the first pick on the goalline, Oregon was regularly scoring in 4-6 plays. JMU couldn't get them to 3rd down even. Nobody on defense had that many chances to make a play.
Still, they did alright, especially considering Oregon shut out Texas Tech the next week over 2,000 miles from home. I especially liked how well Sweazie and Robell were able to hold their own. Note, Robell was playing RG and not C, where he's projected for us - which is a bit of a learning curve and is a bit harder to hold the line - but I expect a HUGE upgrade over Yoon, who was regularly pushed back over 2 yds every time he was asked to block 1v1 last year. Sweazie and Robell were asked to block 1v1 multiple times and had no real issues.
