Red Sanders, who started in 1949, lost his fifth game - at home vs Santa Clara - and was 6-3 for the season.
Special note: In 1976 Terry Donahue was 3-0-1 in his first four games (tying Ohio State), on his way to 9-0-1 before losing the last two games - to SUC and Alabama (Liberty Bowl).
Another note: In 1939 Babe Horrell was 3-0-1 in his first four games and went undefeated at 6-0-4 for the season.
