Do some guys even need a stiff arm? It seems like that's more a tool for a bigger back to use on smaller guys. Foster had good speed but didn't accelerate as quickly, often necessitating the need to shove a smaller guy off until he got into the open field.
Our three current backs don't need stiff arms. Knight uses lower body strength, not upper. He just bounces off and evades people. Thomas is a speed back, not a tackle breaker. He gets into the hole fast and just tries to outrun people. Woods is another lower body guy who just keeps his legs churning until he finds a spot to squeeze into. These guys need stiff arms like a sports car needs monster tires.
I'd like to see Foster come back as a fan, sitting in the stands.
