It doesn't take long at all. In fact, I think it's already been changed. Now it's just a matter of developing current players and upgrading the talent level.
I'm not sure what previous decades have to do with anything, when the players didn't experience those decades and most of the starters weren't even on the team a year ago. Who still hasn't gotten the memo on the culture change? Look at the holdovers. Has Jalen Woods not gotten the memo? Anthony Woods? Rodrick Pleasant? Eugene Brooks? The guys who are behind with the lesson are probably going to get nudged into the portal in about 10 weeks.
You say this year is about convincing people the program is moving in the right direction. Closing out the season 3-5 with one of those wins over Nevada is not going to convince people. Look at cal. After they lost two games one high-profile player re-opened his recruitment and another flipped to another school. There is currently a BYU DT commit who seemingly wants to flip to UCLA, but wants to confirm what he's seeing is not a mirage first.
The days of "the coach needs 5 years to get his program going" are over, not that that idea ever had any validity to begin with. What was left of it got run over by the transfer portal, NIL, and Curt Cignetti.
