so I will try, if I understand it correctly.

With a relatively healthy Nico, 5-2. His experience and running ability will especially be an asset against the weaker teams left on the schedule. Under tougher circumstances, I think we will have to win in spite of him.

With Nico taking a backseat or out/limited by injury, 3-4. I think the coaches can squeeze some wins out of a warm body at QB, probably against the likes of Nevada, Michigan St., and Illinois, all home games.

I admit to being Dieffenbach-curious, however. I'm impressed with his size, athleticism, and throwing ability. I suspect his problem is between the ears, as it is with most QB's. There's probably a reason such an impressive looking dude has played so little in four years of college ball, and what he does have on the books was pretty average at the FCS level.

I have no confidence in Madden, whatsoever, but even with him I think we win 2-3 more.

So, as others have said, Nico is still our best bet. Yet, if he plays another half like that 1H yesterday, I think he's getting benched. If someone were trying to deliberately sabotage the offense, it wouldn't look much different than what he did yesterday. He really sucked that bad.
