In 2002 Meyer was hired at Utah just a few days after we even fired Bob Toledo. Even if contacted in that short window, he would not have blown off UCLA for Utah, who was in the Mountain West Conference at the time.
In 2007 he was still at Florida. Would have been pointless to contact him.
In 2011 he was hired by Ohio St. the same day we fired Neuheisel. I suppose UCLA might have contacted him before they fired Rick.
In 2017 we had one target, Chip, and Urban was still at Ohio St.
It's hard to believe UCLA would have contacted Meyer these last two cycles (Foster, Chesney), but maybe they sent out feelers in case he was dying to coach again.
If I had to guess, assuming what he says is true, UCLA probably sent out a feeler to him before they fired Rick.
