I feel like those "person you wouldn't expect to like classic rock reacts to classic rock" things on youtube are all pretty calculated to get clicks. But, they are fun, indeed.

It's my vague recollection that Robert Plant has said that the Greta Van Fleet singer is the closest thing to him.

I've long felt that All Right Now's secret sauce is the how high on the mix the bass drum is. When I listen to it in my car, you can feel it on your gut. I'm jealous that sc plays that song after turnovers. It sounds great.

I went on Youtube, to link the song, to make my point. And, this is the first version on their list. It's pretty different from the version that comes up on classic rock stations today. What happened? I assume this is the original version. Is the version you hear today a different mix of this session? A different recording altogether? Is this the version that we grew up with?

Sirius XM plays Casey Kasem Top 40's from the 70's every weekend. The songs sometimes sound pretty different from what I'm familiar with. And, I grew up in the 70's. The remixes that were done when CD's came out, sometimes changed the songs fairly significantly.

Anyway, here's the first version of Alright Now that came up on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjjs4thy-R0&list=RDqjjs4thy-R0&start_radio=1

To go totally off the rail, my favorite example of a song that was changed, and made much worse, in the digital age is What Is Life by George Harrison.

There's a great slide guitar lead in the last verse. I loved it as a kid. I was super bummed when I bought the album on CD, they had totally buried that lead. I could hardly hear it. Somehow, I came across a 2020 re-release. They'd brought that guitar lead way back up. It's great! I'm tempted to buy an original vinyl of All Things, just to hear the original mix. If I ever come across a used one that's cheap, I probably will. In the meantime, I've linked the 2020 reissue.
