he has brains, and his heart is in the right place.
On the other hand, he's probably where he should be and not be the person in charge of one of the biggest powers in the world at a time when everything is going to hell in a hurry.
Sometimes we tend to mix up who would be a good president with who would be a good candidate. Colbert would make a fantastic candidate, but a president???
A major handicap for people with no background in politics, specifically federal politics, is that they don't independently know who's who in politics so they would have to rely on those damn consultants to put together a team, which at the end makes sure that nothing will ever change much. The main reason Trump has been so effective (in his own way) is that he has been around long enough build his own team as opposed to his first term, where he had to rely on the usual names and nothing changed.
If and when a Democrat is in the White House next time, things will have to be changed in big ways, and we already know from the Biden experience that bringing people who travel in the same circles, going back to the Clinton and Obama admins is a recipe for disaster. A president [insert outsider here] will draw us back into the same f*cking orbit once again, and *then* fascists will come back even stronger.
For the sake of the republic, or whatever's will have left of it in three years, we need someone who can bring their own team, who's also very clearly grounded in *today's* politics and not the politics of the 80s or 90s. We need a young and energetic name whose politics was not forged in the late 20th century.
Colbert may be more aware of modern politics as an observer, but I'm guessing he doesn't have the connections to put together a team that can take us in a bold direction.
