This is all and only about creating this air of military rule: The masks. The mindless cruelty. The slamming down of journalists. The way they pick up harmless people with extra force. All that intimidation. All that cosplay....
Sure, they're doing this to get us used to seeing military action taken against civilians when full-on fascism gets unleashed on us. But this is also about them living their video game fantasies. Setting up a military rule and ushering in fascism is also part of their video game fantasy. Precisely in the way that they're convinced that all this hurting will remain on other people and none of it will eventually come back to them.
These are little boys who never grew up, who never enjoyed an actual personal relationship with anyone else, who could never draw the line between real life and their angsty early teen fantasies.
When you dig into fascism and what turns people into fascists, that also has to be one of the components: insufficient socialization as a human being.
