Airport Lounges - what am I missing?

Now have access to various lounges. Usually have to wait around for 10-30 minutes to get in - not very useful if you have a moderate layover. And, even when you're in there, you gotta hunt around for a seat. For what? Free food of varying quality? Free drinks (I don't drink much anymore).

Got to go to a KLM lounge once. That was epic. But, the other lounges, I'm not seeing the big appeal. Why is it better than picking the restaurant of your choice and hanging out there for a while?
