Until recently, this has been the key fact: For example, Ryan Burge, a professor at Washington University in St. Louis’s John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics, analyzed data from the Cooperative Election Study and found that the percentage of self-identified American evangelicals who “seldom” or “never” attend church has been increasing since 2008. In 2024, half of all evangelicals attended church once per month, or less.
And, there have been polls that show that Trump-Christians in particular are not church-going Christians.
The surge of Christian Nationalism is so baffling to me. The entire New Testament is written in the tone of being outsiders. Jesus never hinted at a Christian state and never discussed Jewish state-building. How people can conjure up the idea that a Christian State is in any way aligned with the Bible is a mystery to me. Just baffling.
And, I want to ask them "what variety of Christianity?" Will your kids be forced to pray the rosary, will they be forbidden from it?
