… I’ve grown weary of “good sounding news” that doesn’t come to fruition.

I understand the state, but could we realy say that external circumstances in the U.S. right now mirror what has been seen historically? I suggest the answer to that question is “no”. If voting is suppressed at a state and local level, public sentiment may not matter.
