First and foremost, they knew that had middle relief issues and did nothing before the trade deadline. Zilch. They got away with it the first two series because their starters went deep into the game.
If you don't have middle relief in a world series, you are done. It doesn't matter how good your offense is.
Conversely, Toronto picked up 3 good pitchers including Bieber before the trade deadline.
Yesavage had ERA's of 6.00 and 11.00(rounding off) vs the Mariners and he made the Dodgers look silly. Maybe just the law of averages and had a good game.
Betts in particular had the worst season of his career only batting .258 with 20 Homeruns. And followed up with a 3 for 27 in his last 5 games.
Freeman batted a respectable .295 for the season,  But on the lower end when 4 of the 5 previous years he batted .331, .325, .300, .341.
Last 5 games for him was 5 for 20.
Betts signed a 12 year 365 Million contract through 2032. He will be a real thorn in the Dodgers if he continues to hit .250 with 20 Hr's going forward.
