Diary of a CEO is a podcast we watch it on youtube but there are other ways. He had 4 Ai people on. The guy who told that story is ex Google he said he remembers being at Google in 2012 when they bought Deep Mind and thinking we have plenty of time to worry about security it will be decades. Then some years later he resigned because he realized Google was only focused on making the Ai better they thought we'll make it better and then worry about security and he knew too much and said that doesn't work you have to get the security before then or it is too late. 3 of the 4 said it was it is very likely it's going to be a real problem if we don't pull back now. The 4th guy said they're all overreacting it's not that bad it's already smarter than 99% of the world including the people working on it and hasn't decided to kill us yet, do you really think the 1% it's not smarter than are saving us all right now?
There's a big divergence right now many think the Ai companies aren't actually concerned about the threat they're concerned about their debt and they are using security as an excuse to get the government to jump in, regulate them and backstop them so they are just using this as an excuse to get government money.
These 4 seemed to somewhat agree that was part of it but said it's also clear until they that one guy went public they thought they could contain the fact they were all concerned as well but now they can't, so they think it's the right time.
The other thing is it's so funny how much they all hate Elon. He called for security a few years ago and everyone said it was because XAi was way behind and he wanted the government to slow the other companies to help him catch up. They all still clearly think that the only reason Elon is saying slow it down is he still thinks he's behind, if he was ahead he'd never be for slowing down.
