At the most fundamental level, it reminds me of a story Jay Leno told. When he was a young comedian starting out, at the end of his set, a mob guy came up and stuffed an $100 into his shirt pocket. Leno said "thank you, but no thank you" The mob guy said "smart man."
50 years ago, Sonny Barger, was on Studs Terkel and said in those days they look for civilians with problems. They help them out with that problem and then own that person for the rest of their life.
He knows this. Of course he does. Why would he let someone else pay for his son's wedding.
Just try looking at everything he does through that lens. You may agree with me. You may not.
