Big fanfare yesterday trump to sign big deal with Greenland and Denmark that gives US the right to put military anywhere they want on Greenland to protect it and we don't have to pay a thing.

The deal per experts sounds suspiciously like the 1951 Greenland Defense Agreement, in fact it's so much like it that it's almost as if Trump just copied it which as you see below is essentially all they did. Copy the existing pact and extend it.

Key Provisions of the 1951 Pact
Military Basing Rights: Allowed the U.S. to build and operate major strategic installations, most notably Thule Air Base (now the Pituffik Space Base).

Free Access and Movement: Granted U.S. forces, public vessels, and aircraft the right of free access to and movement between designated defense areas.

Sovereignty: Explicitly respected Danish sovereignty and territorial integrity while providing operational control within designated defense areas.

2004 Update: Amended via the Igaliku Agreement to formally include Greenland's Home Rule government in consultations regarding military activities

Recent Developments
September 2026 Security Agreement: The U.S., Denmark, and Greenland announced a supplemental framework updating the 1951 arrangement.

Strategic Restrictions: The updated framework reinforces restrictions against non-NATO adversaries (like China and Russia) from establishing military footprints or making sensitive local investments in Greenland, and ensures continued U.S. base access even if Greenland pursues future independence.
