Over 167,000 Pounds Of Meat Recalled After Given Fake USDA Inspection Stamp
More than 167,000 pounds of raw beef, pork and goat meat are being recalled nationwide after officials said they were produced without a federal inspection and given fake inspection stamps.
The meat, which should be considered unsafe to eat, was produced by Star Meat Delivery Inc. in North Carolina and distributed to restaurants and retailers by A&D Foods, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Tuesday.
The products were given the false USDA inspection number “EST. 1363,” though authorities warned that individual consumer packages “may not bear this labeling, as retail stores may have applied their own stickers with pricing and safe handling instructions.”
“Food produced without inspection may contain undeclared allergens, harmful bacteria, or other contaminants that put consumer health and safety at risk,” the USDA said.
There have been no confirmed reports of illness or injury due to the products’ consumption, authorities said.
