In April 2020, President Donald Trump played a diplomatic role in the OPEC+ oil-production deal during the COVID-19 oil-price collapse.
OPEC+ agreed to cut production by 9.7 million barrels per day beginning May 1, 2020—the largest coordinated production cut at that point.
Trump spoke directly with Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Mexico, helping negotiate the dispute, particularly over Mexico's unwillingness to make its full assigned cut.
The cuts were subsequently reduced to 7.7 million barrels/day for July–December 2020 and then 5.8 million barrels/day through April 2022
