Macron and others have announced today they will release more than 100 million barrels of emergency oil from European reserves over the next 4 months. They are frontloading release of large amounts of diesel to try and get prices to come down to avert a global fuel crisis. G7 and Europe strongly opposed the Trump plan to ban exports saying it would have ripple effects that Trump didn't understand. Trump then started begging them to release more reserves which they have finally agreed to do since it's obvious Trump is powerless to get diesel down on his own.
Trump immediately touted it as his plan but Macron and others have made it clear, they did NOT want anybody to do an export ban it would be a disaster so they proposed this instead despite clear concerns they were risking taking reserves too low.
