Democrats keep making the mistake of thinking every election is about Democrats. That’s why they keep losing.
Republicans understand that elections are ultimately about persuading independents.
Democrats don’t to have a compelling plan for independents. And frankly, as a progressive who pays close attention to politics, I couldn’t tell you what the Democratic vision for the country has been since Obama.
Biden’s 20-year approach was particularly frustrating. You would think someone who spent decades in Congress would understand that major legislation needs to accomplish its core objectives within the first two years of a presidency. Designing policies that depend on a future Congress—or a future GOP administration—not undoing them is pragmatically idiotic.
If you know Republicans will eventually control Congress or the presidency, you have to build your agenda around that reality. Pass the things that matter most while you have the votes, make them durable, and give voters a tangible reason to keep you in power.
Dems love to blame everyone except themselves not having a f@cking vision. When Obama had one, the media was happy to promote is. So the same is with Mamdani. Instead we hide behind complaints that the media is hiding Trump is sleeping in a meeting as if that was new news, instead of demanding more from our complacent ever more unpopular party.
