If you’re going to tax the wealthy, then do it consistently and establish a clear principle for why and how much.
If you want a 0.5% wealth tax, then make the case for a 0.5% wealth tax and implement it. What I don’t like are these one-off, “emergency” or “instant” taxes that are justified by whatever the political target of the moment happens to be.
Once you establish the precedent that you can create a new tax whenever you find a good enough excuse, it becomes incredibly easy to do it again.
