Not the same thing.
A Trump Account is seed money that can be invested and compounded from the time a child is born. It creates a new investment account for children without taking money away from anyone who is currently receiving Social Security.
That is fundamentally different from privatizing Social Security, which would involve changing how workers’ retirement benefits are financed and potentially redirecting some payroll taxes away from the traditional Social Security system and into individual investment accounts.
If we assume an 8% annual return, a one-time $1,250 investment compounded for 59 years would grow to approximately $117,000. That's a remarkable amount of money generated from a relatively small initial investment.
So I have a simple question: Take Trump's name off the program. Would you like the idea then?
Dems omplaining about giving children $1,250 that they otherwise would never have received—and allowing that money to grow tax-deferred—seems a lot like Republicans complaining about Obamacare simply because of the author.
Something like the Trump account is exactly what I would do for my grandchildren if given a chance.
