Hamas is also objectionable because it targets non combatants and civilians, executing some and kidnapping others as hostages.
The willful targeting of civilians and non-combatants is exactly the conduct that the IDF is condemned for.
Hamas has been in power through sheer brute force for decades, longer than most Palestinians have been alive, with no democratic election since the early 2000s and that was a plurality.
Hamas has just inflicted more trauma on the Palestinian people for its own ends rather than protecting them.
