the 2nd in command in the Trump DOJ sent a threatening letter to California warning them election officials would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law if they are found to be "aiding and abetting" non citizens voting in the election. The letter cites a claim of a confirmed 20,000 Californians who are in fact not citizens and yet voted. But in COURT, the admin only said those voters are "suspected" of not being citizens.
So they are threatening to prosecute election officials if they count votes, literally their job under state and federal election laws. The attempt is clear, they want to intimidate election officials into refusing to do their jobs. Note, this is why the SAVE America Act was so unpopular even Republicans wouldn't push it hard, because in the statute it threatened to prosecute election officials for doing their jobs if the Trump admin SUSPECTS someone is not a citizen. California is the test case per Marc Elias the DOJ is going to make similar written threats in multiple other states.
Elias called it the most obvious authoritarian move in Trumps and likely US history. Trump is attempting to stop election officials from counting votes because he knows those votes will be blue
