The United States plans to provide up to $20 billion in investment and financing for strategic projects in Argentina through the end of 2027, tying continued support to President Javier Milei's political and economic policies.

U.S. Ambassador Peter Lamelas made the announcement Tuesday. Argentina is scheduled to hold elections next year for president and part of its Congress. Milei is eligible to run again.

The amount pledged is nearly three times the $7 billion included in a bilateral agreement announced in September. However, Lamelas did not specify how much funding would be disbursed, when the money would become available or which projects would be included in the package.

The U.S. ambassador made the announcement to business leaders at an energy summit organized by the Argentina-Texas Chamber of Commerce in Neuquén, a province in western Argentina, a day after Milei suggested that the amount agreed upon with Washington could grow.

"Don't rule out the possibility that the figure could increase," Milei said Monday at the opening of the Argentina Oil & Gas Patagonia 2026 exhibition, according to Infobae.
