Writing in the New Yorker, Jill Lepore refers to a historian-futurist named Yuval Noah Harari. He’s very smart and I respect his opinions. Here’s how she summarized his prediction for humanity if AI is implemented:
“In the not distant future, humans will be to artificial intelligence what horses are to humans. Horses live in a world ordered by humans, even though horses aren’t aware of it: they know nothing about things like animal law or finance, but these things govern their lives. In the future, Harari suggested, humans will be the horses; we won’t even comprehend the systems established and run by machines that rule our lives.”
Not too comforting, is it?
