Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, known simply as “Lula”, has defeated Flávio Bolsonaro to be President of Brazil in a major upset Sunday night.
With nearly every vote cast, the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil has declared Lula the winner. The nearly 81-year-old Lula ran for a non-consecutive fourth term as the nominee of the Worker’s Party of Brazil, a party he founded. He ran against Flávio Bolsonaro of the Liberal Party, a Senator from the state of Rio de Janeiro.
